Last Friday, I was honored to be an MC (Master of Ceremony) in charge of the GLV afternoon presentation. The only reason I accepted this opportunity was that I believed that it would give me a wonderful chance to practice my English, especially my spoken English. It really did.
As you all know, when being an MC you should speak English loud enough so that everyone in the hall can hear you. You should also speak English clearly and correctly, so that everyone can understand you. I usually speak in a low voice and indistinctly, even when it is necessary in some specific situations .
However, as I stood on the stage, in front of all the teachers, staff and students, I realized that I had to speak almost as loud as I could, as clearly as I could. I believe that it will give me great help in the future.Being an MC, you should concentrate on the program. You should understand what the performers were doing, what they were talking about. Otherwise it would be impossible to give your own opinions. It is listening practice, and it is also practice at expressing yourself, and organizing your speeches. It really gave me wonderful practice and a remarkable experience, especially in English. I enjoyed it very much. I hope you also enjoyed it.
For all the GLV students, if you all have a chance for this practice, do not miss it. You may feel a bit nervous at the beginning, as I did that afternoon. Once you get over it, it will be a wonderful practice and memorable experience. You will have an enjoyable afternoon. I believe that you can do well.
