After preparing for two days, the students staged skits that amused the audience。 An English recitation accompanied by performers holding candles and praying for disaster victims was robustly applauded。 Led by a teacher, the audience read aloud: “We are the world, “We are praying for the victims of the earthquake, “We will do our best to help them, “We are the world” | Wishes | “Earthquake has no feelings, but people have feelings。 Together we are family,“ Kelly Morine, English programme training & development administrator of GLV and hostess of the party, said with obvious emotion。 A video presentation of quake- stricken ruins, victims, rescuers and situations edited from the Internet then followed。 Viewers were deeply moved。 A young woman cried aloud while many students silently shed tears。 When the presentation ended, teachers and staff from various countries, and then students went up to the stage to donate money。 | Kelly | “I can’t imagine what these people are going through,“ Kelly said, adding: “We just all have to come together, because it doesn’t matter about money and wealth; what matters is people and life。” A Canadian who has never seen such a disaster, Kelly observed: “One minute, your life is OK, and you’re laughing, and the next minute, you lose it all。 By seeing what’s happening and by understanding what’s happening, that does give you a better appreciation of life。” The lesson learned from the earthquake, Kelly noted, is: “We have to treasure every moment that we have; we have to treasure the people in our life。“ | Zuber | Zuber Shaikh, senior English teacher from India, confessed that the pictures made him feel rather bad and upset。 “It’s really not good, like it’s not even long time people just overcome with this fear of earthquake and suddenly this is another one。 I feel I’m helpless,“ he said。 Like many people, he wants to help the victims。 However, “What we can do right now is just giving money, and of course prayer,” he said。 What he has concluded from the disaster is: “Do the things we can do now; be kind to everybody。” Vegas Johnson, a teacher from the US, felt sadness。 “I think it‘s unfortunate that it takes things like this to bring us together,” he said。 Having worked in Zhuhai for one year, he said he wants China to accept him as part of its family。 When his students saw him weeping in class, they were surprised that the foreigner felt so sad about the Chinese disaster。 “It doesn’t matter whether you’re Chinese or not。 I understand your feelings, but I’m here and it’s about human beings,” he said。
