English and Me

Across this world the international language that attracts me and draws itself to me is the English language. With all its charm, interest and excitement it always brings me confidence and joy. This euphonious and agreeable language always catches the latest trends, being at the forefront of foreign languages. Everything about this international language reveals its glamour.

As a pretty faithful friend, English language brings me lots of joy and confidence. I personally think the English language is like water and I’m like a sponge that always wants to suck up the water. It captivates and attracts me all the time. My initial learning to English dates back to my middle school life. I didn’t really expect that it could play such an important role in my life later on. My first English teacher, Miss Yang, spoke very fluent English and I guess her lectures must be the most major factor that stimulated my potential cells for the English language. I did admire her English a lot and try to imitate the way she pronounced each word almost daily. Her lectures always struck us as impressive. Three years’ middle school life ended soon yet it equipped me with kind of very basal knowledge of English.

I still had problems applying English language in a proper way though I was admitted to be a 10th grader in a private foreign languages school then. Probably, the school interviewer was quite a lenient person. What I didn’t expect was the cumbersome problems with English learning that kept on crawling out afterwards. Feeling down, I was about to drop. Most of my classmates started to have English classes when they were in primary schools. What I always complained was the injustice that our primary school didn’t provide us with even one English class. Among a class where many classmates were early English learners, I had to strain to redeem my difference from them. However, I often tried to convince myself that I was cut out to be a good foreign language learner and I was a gifted girl on English language. What added to my conviction further was a research article published in a magazine I happened to read one day and I was informed that foreign language learning had a tight connection with instrument learning. This research paper really struck me and it brought me hope that my 5 years’ experience playing electronic piano would do me a great favor in my English language learning now. Scientifically true or false whether this article was, I took it as the last straw I could grasp. I plucked up my confidence and courage and ran away from being self-abased. I found hope to emulate my classmates and I learnt very hard.

High school life soon fleeted over and my college life was drawing near. I was enrolled to be an English language major in one of the average universities of my city. At first, I thought my spoken English could be a bit over my classmates. Unexpectedly, I encountered a few stumbling blocks since nobody’s perfect. With a slight inferiority to others in English grammar learning and the English written tests were really to my disadvantage. I was trying to seek light in the dark tunnels, to find a way to make up my English grammar for that was what I knew I should cope with at once. I designed a way to improve my English grammar myself in the meanwhile I knew it clearly that I should work hard and never be lazy and I set a high bar for myself. When I was still proceeding to work hard on my weakness, another English written test came. I had great worries and tension for I didn’t think I was ready enough for it. I remained simply nervous and sacred for the 2 weeks prior to receiving my scores. I finally received my scores and I was ecstatic to see that I got 95/100. Thus I convinced myself again that my efforts paid off. But I knew clearly that a simple test score didn’t mean anything when it came to measuring a person’s intelligence and potential. My passion and interest for the English language stepped onto another stage filled with lots of hopes and ambitions and I began to be nuts about this language. I came to be a fixture in our campus’s English corner. Going there always injected lots of pleasure in me and it contributed countless pleasure into my life. I did really have a sense of assurance that my English was good particularly at the time I had lots of listeners. I came to realize that the English language did earn me lots of confidence, especially when I translated it into practical use. I began to excel throughout my college life.

As an English teacher nowadays I don’t leave my English language learning behind, instead I still learn it daily. Nowadays, I regularly hit the English Corner in our city, talking with those who are also fond of English in a very relaxed way. The English language enriches one’s life and your good command of it is highly valued by your admirers. I have a strong appeal for the English language and my passion for it never fades away. My journey to learn it is likely to continue and go through my life. I hope my English grows to the point that I can use it in any fields and occasions smoothly yet I surely know it would be tough. However, it is not insurmountable when you really care to it. The English language fascinates its learners all the time for it amuses you, earns you confidence and makes you know more about this world, etc. I always attribute my confidence to the English language and it does work on me.
