To master English well requires a long period of patience and perseverance, and my road of studying the language is full of twists as well as turns. But hard work paying off, I see my sunshine slowly but surely. A disabled person as I am, I can not put up with being a laggard. Thus, in order not to fall behind, I began teaching myself English at about the age of thirteen. Since then, I also listen to the tape, read aloud and so forth each day. Gradually I grow interested in the language, and especially when realizing it can be my major and determined to become a translator down the line, I make greater efforts to study it. Notwithstanding, the road of my English learning is bumpy. Unable to hold pens, I have to acquire new things all by memory instead of taking notes as others. Usually, not until new words are remembered well enough can I stop reviewing them over and over again. Also, studying the language alone at home, I lack circumstances of using it. This makes me listen to quantities of materials and speak to myself in English a lot per day so that I am able to keep the normal standard of hearing and speaking. Last of all, the most difficult thing in my English learning may be that there is no instructor to guide me when I meet with obstacles. For instance, sometimes I being uncertain of the usage of a phrase to be applied in a composition, what I can do is no more than going through plenty of books just to make sure that it is proper there, during which I feel truly disheartened and oppressed. But little by little, good results come to light after years’ hard study. I enjoy writing English essays, and my writing skill becomes better and better with time going by. A year ago, to my surprise and delight, one of my essays got published, and what followed is the appearances of an increasing number of what I write on some English newspapers as well as magazines. Meanwhile, I established a blog, in which I express my perspectives on things and record my life in English. In the first weeks, only a few people visited it, but as I upload more and more, the click-rate is always on the raise. By now, over 600 people have read it according to the statistics of the computer system. And what makes me most pleased during my learning is that before long I got a placing in the Thirteenth “21st century–Lenovo Cup” National English Writing Contest. I receiving my certificate, my heart was filled with pride, satisfaction and happiness, which is a special feeling I have never experienced and will never forget. So far, I have been teaching myself English for almost six years. If comparing my road of studying the language to one with wind and rain, I firmly believe that after I surmount them, what is ahead will be sunshine, which is indeed revealing itself gradually.
